GLP-1 (Glucagon-Like Peptide-1)

Gut hormone receptor. The target for tirzepatide, semaglutide, retatrutide.

GLP-1 is a gut hormone released after eating that stimulates insulin release, slows gastric emptying, and promotes satiety. GLP-1 receptor agonists (drugs that activate the receptor) include semaglutide (Ozempic, Wegovy), tirzepatide (Mounjaro, Zepbound — also activates GIP), liraglutide, and the investigational retatrutide (also activates glucagon). They're the most evidence-backed weight-loss drugs ever developed.
