- you're already on a GLP-1 and want a needle-free add-on for the last 10 lbs of belly
- you read Brad Stanfield, Peter Attia, or the longevity-Reddit sidebar and saw NNMT come up
- you've done the rapamycin / NMN circuit and want the next compound on that list
- **what good looks like on the label: "5-amino-1-methylquinolinium iodide" (CAS 42464-96-0), ≥98% HPLC.** Iodide salt is the published stability winner (>95% potency at 18 months 25°C); free base or hydrochloride drops to ~72% under the same storage. If the vendor can't name the salt form, walk.
- you want randomized human data — there is none
- you're looking for first-line fat loss before you've tried a real GLP-1
- you have active or recent cancer and shouldn't be modulating polyamine pathways without an oncologist in the room
- 12 weeks of full dose with no measurable visceral-fat or insulin shift — non-responder.
- Personal or family history of cancer surfaces during the course — the methylation-axis perturbation is the under-studied risk.
- Liver enzymes climb — hepatic impairment is a labeled exclusion.
- Tempted to extend past 12 weeks because the labs moved — DON'T. Cycle off, re-test, decide on a SECOND course only if you have to.
What it is.
5-Amino-1MQ is a small molecule (not technically a , but it gets shelved with them) that inhibits NNMT — nicotinamide N-methyltransferase. NNMT is an enzyme that quietly burns through your NAD+ precursor pool to make a methylation by-product called 1-methylnicotinamide.
The theory: shut NNMT down, and you preserve NAD+ in tissues that overexpress the enzyme — fat cells in obesity, muscle in aging, certain tumors. The downstream pitch is fat loss, better metabolic flexibility, and protection against age-related muscle decline.
It was developed in academic labs, most prominently at the Wake Forest group around Bill Donelson and the broader NNMT-inhibitor literature. There is no version. It is sold strictly as a research chemical (RUO) in the US, usually as an oral capsule.
